DESCRIPTION: 2 people will enjoy 6 days/ 5 nights immersed in the culture and chocolate of Belize in Central America. Tanager Rainforest Lodge is a small, intimate, privately owned property with only 8 guest cottages situated on approximately 30 acres of beautiful grounds and tropical orchards. Birding, tubing or kayaking down the Rio Grande river that winds around the perimeter of the property, a swim in the hot springs, or relaxing by the pristine pool with a mojito are just a few of the onsite activities. Included in the package itinerary are two chocolate making experiences which form the central theme of the program activities. One is a local Mayan farmer and his wife who have created Ixcacao, an artisanal chocolate manufacturer. The other, a boutique chocolate maker managing the entire process from farm to bean to bar. Visit a spice farm growing vanilla, cardamom and black pepper and a host of other spices. In Big Falls village the Cal family will host you and explain their traditional way of life. A visit to the Mayan ruins, birding Zip lining, a visit to the local market, hiking and exploring the underwater caves, picnic lunches, and swimming in the refreshing falls are activities nearby.
